“I Love to Practice!”

“I Love to Practice!”

Wouldn’t it be amazing if your child actually said that? Believe it or not, it’s possible! A positive home practice environment makes all the difference — and it doesn’t require bribery or drama.

First, enjoy the process. If practice feels pleasant, everyone wins. Even three minutes at a time (a few times a day) can work wonders when it’s done with joy. The goal isn’t perfection — it’s progress with smiles.

Next, be consistent. Choose a regular time each day so practice becomes part of your rhythm. When it’s predictable, it feels secure. A simple phrase like, “Practicing is what we do in our family,” works magic. Kids rise to family expectations!

Avoid negotiating. If practice only happens when your child feels like it… well, you can guess how often that will be. Calm, steady routines are powerful.

Build stamina gradually. Start small and grow over time. As your child learns more music, practice will naturally lengthen. And remember: quality beats quantity every time. One measure mastered with confidence is better than five rushed ones.

Most importantly — stay positive. If frustration bubbles up, pause before speaking. Words matter. Encouragement fuels growth far more than criticism ever could.

And don’t underestimate praise. Notice effort. Celebrate improvement. Keep a visible list of “wins” your child can read and feel proud of.

Practice time is more than music time — it’s connection time. Treasure these moments. With patience, love, and consistency, “I love to practice!” might just become your favorite phrase.

Keep it up and keep practicing! Dawn Elmer, Academy Director
