Why Summer Is One of the Best Times for Music Lessons

Summer is almost here, and while schedules begin to relax, it’s actually one of the most valuable times for your child’s growth in music. At Post Falls Music Academy, we love seeing our students continue through the summer—and we have some exciting events planned.

One of the biggest advantages of staying enrolled is consistency. When your child continues lessons, you keep your preferred time slot and your teacher. Families who take a break often find that schedules are full when they return, making it difficult to get back into the same routine.

Summer is also a time when students tend to make faster progress. With less homework and fewer school demands, they are able to focus more during lessons and practice with greater ease. This often leads to noticeable improvement and important breakthroughs.

Continuing lessons also helps keep your child’s mind engaged. Music is a powerful way to support focus, creativity, and discipline. Staying active over the summer helps students return to school feeling sharp and confident rather than trying to rebuild lost momentum.

For students working through our Musical Ladder system, consistency is especially important. Remaining enrolled allows them to continue building on their progress and move forward without interruption, rather than having to revisit previous material.

Finally, summer brings some of our most enjoyable performance opportunities. Our June recital is one of the highlights of the year, and we also offer opportunities to perform at the Kootenai County Fair, Kootenai Country Farmer’s Market,  as well as our fun outdoor performance near Lake Coeur d'Alene, Concert in the Park. These events give students something exciting to work toward and a chance to share their progress with others.

Making music a year-round activity provides lasting benefits. Summer lessons help students stay consistent, build confidence, and continue growing in a meaningful way.

Keep Practicing! Dawn Elmer, Academy Director

Student of the Month:

Aanika

We are pleased to announce Aanika as the Post Falls Music Academy student of the month!

Aanika is 11 years old and has been studying viola for 8 months!  She is a 6th grader at Peperzak.

Her favorite color is blue. She loves to eat McDonald’s. Yum!

Her favorite song to play is “Alione and Rock.”

When she is not playing the viola, Aanika likes to create art!

Her teacher, Elijah, says: “Aanika is an amazing and talented student!  She is

dedicated, funny and a great viola player.  She has lots of energy and a strong passion

for the viola.  It is always great working with her and I am honored to be her teacher!”

Congratulations Aanika for your hard work and awesome attitude.
